Is Sydney or Melbourne the better city? Laneway Festival 2020 punters and artists weigh in

“Fuckin’ sick beaches, brah!”

NME Australia spent two glorious days at St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival – at both its Sydney and Melbourne stops. And so we couldn’t pass up the chance to ask obliging punters: which is the better city?

There’s lots to love about both places, for sure, and Laneway festivalgoers – and the occasional artist – were happy to elaborate. From Sydney’s warm weather and gorgeous beaches to Melbourne’s superior public transport and “chill vibes”, punters at both Laneway stops gave us compelling – and colourful – arguments for their favourite city.

After you’re done, revisit the best Aussie sets of Laneway 2020 with our reviews of performances by The Chats, Tones And I plus King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, not to mention our rundown of the best rising acts we saw at the festival. We were also on hand to witness thrilling sets by international headliners Charli XCX and The 1975.
