Sunset Piazza, a new pop-up venue set to open in Sydney on January 28, will welcome performances from Alex The Astronaut, Allday and more in the coming months.
An initiative launched by the NSW Government and City of Sydney, Sunset Piazza will set up shop in Cathedral Square, opposite Hyde Park.
Music and comedy performances will run at the venue across 32 nights, with the Piazza closing its doors on March 21.
Thus far, details have been released for half of the evenings’ entertainment. Aside from Alex The Astronaut and Allday, Ben Lee, JK-47, Peking Duk and more are set to perform as part of the venue’s first 16 shows.
Per a press release, the gig series was conceived during the recent Summer Summit, at which the NSW Government hatched COVID-safe plans to maintain the state’s economy this summer.
“I love the feeling of going to a new stage, I always get a rush of adrenaline when I get to a venue and see the layout and imagine what the show might look like,” Alex The Astronaut said in a statement.
“After last year, the whole world has experienced and continues to experience so much upheaval so I think if we can come together in a safe way and tell stories and let people get away from what they’ve been through for an hour or so, it’d be a really healing thing for everyone involved.”
Concertgoers over the age of 12 will be required to wear a face mask while at Sunset Piazza. Those who have visited a COVID-19 hotspot in the 14 days prior to attending the venue will be refused entry.
