Crystal Dynamics delays next-gen version of ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ to 2021

The Kate Bishop DLC pack has also been delayed

Crystal Dynamics has announced that the next-gen version of Marvel’s Avengers has been delayed to 2021.

In a new lengthy blog post, the developer addressed the current state of the game and what it intends to achieve moving forward. Crystal Dynamics revealed that, as part of its  ongoing work to improve the game, it will be pushing back the release of both the next-gen version of the game and the Kate Bishop DLC pack.

Crystal Dynamics has pushed back the release of the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S versions of the game in order to “give our team the time to deliver a next-gen experience showcasing all that this game is meant to be”. The next-gen version of Marvel’s Avengers will now be released in 2021, but players who own the game on current-gen platforms will still be able to run the title on their next-gen consoles

In the post, Crystal Dynamics also acknowledged that multiple in-game issues have negatively impacted fans’ experience with the title. It stated that the problems do not align with the company’s “value of craftsmanship”, adding that it will introduce new “community-driven features” in an effort to realign the game to players’ expectations.

The upcoming new features include a ping system, the option to replay the main story campaign, a high contrast mode to improve readability, adjusted hero icon visibility, mission reward clarity, as well as clearer off-screen and ranged enemy attack indicators. There’s no specific release date for the new functions, but the developer says they will be introduced in “the coming months”.

Outside of this, the developer will also focus on four key pillars for the future of Marvel’s Avengers: performance and stability, multiplayer and matchmaking, rewards and late-game content. “Moving forward, we intend to have a fixed, predictable patching cycle to ensure all new content meets both our and your high standards and has time for extensive internal testing,” Crystal Dynamics said.

Lastly, as a thank you for fans who have stuck around since the beginning, the developer will also be releasing a free limited-time bundle, which will be available from October 22 to November 5. The package includes 1500 credits, 7000 units, 250 upgrade modules, 20 DNA keys and a unique Sarah Garza-inspired nameplate.

Crystal Dynamics recently stated that it is “confident” players will return to the game. “We are listening. We are making fixes, improvements, and additions as fast as we safely can to make Marvel’s Avengers the game we all aspire it to be,” it said.
