Taking place virtually from March 16-20

The 2021 virtual edition of South By Southwest will feature performances from at least ten Australian acts, including Alice Skye, Shannen James and Didirri.

Famous for including up-and-coming artists from around the world, the festival made its first lineup announcement for 2021 today (January 27). Close to 100 acts were named.

For the first time in its history, the festival will take place entirely online this year from March 16-20.

Alexander Biggs, Alice Skye, Beans, Death By Denim, Didirri, Indigo Sparke, Kee’ahn, The Merindas, No Money Enterprise and Shannen James, all of whom hail from Australia, are all set to feature at the 2021 conference.

Punters are able to watch this year’s SXSW by heading to the festival’s website and purchasing tickets. Registration currently costs $249 USD ($322 AUD) and will go up to $399 USD ($514 AUD) in March as the festival approaches.

Aside from gaining access to the festival’s performances, purchasing a pass will allow fans to watch keynotes, mentoring sessions, comedy and workshops.

SXSW’s 2020 iteration was among the first major festivals to be scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic. It marked the first time the event had been cancelled in 34 years. Electric Fields, Baker Boy and Alex The Astronaut were among the Australian artists set to perform at the 2020 festival.

Held in Austin, Texas each year, artists who have credited SXSW for helping launch their careers include The White Stripes, Amy Winehouse, Katy Perry and Bon Iver.
