John spoke with the 17-year old Australian rapper – real name Charlton Howard – on Facetime, predicting even greater success for the young star this year. “Congratulations to everything that’s happened to you from the word go,” John said. “You’re already huge, but I hope you realise what’s gonna happen to you in 2021. You’re gonna be one of the biggest artists in the whole wide world”.
“It means so much coming from you,” Howard responded.
In a tweet after the interview, Howard added that the chat was “one of the craziest moments of my life”.

Elsewhere in the interview, John described why he thought Howard’s music was unique.
“It’s not just about rap, your music covers a lot of bases. I can hear a little bit of Lil Peep in you, is that true or not?”
“To be completely honest, I never really listend to a lot of Peep while he was alive. When he passed, I listened to a lot of him…this one song, ‘Star Shopping’ actually inspired the song I made ‘Maybe’,” Howard said.
When John asked him what Howard’s plans for 2021 were, he said that he was working on his debut album with videos and singles still to come.
Yesterday, The Kid LAROI notched two entries in triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2020: ‘GO’ – The Kid Laroi [Feat. Juice WRLD] and ‘So Done’. Both tracks are taken from his debut mixtape ‘FUCK LOVE’. He released the deluxe edition, ‘FUCK LOVE (Savage)’, last month.
