Aussie rapper Genesis Owusu has released his first new music in 2020 dropping the single ‘Don’t Need You’. Watch the music video, directed by Bart Celestino, below.
Owusu has taken an incredibly hands on approach to all aspects of the single’s making and release, with the single artwork and all imagery created solely by him.
“‘Don’t Need You’ is an anthem of independence, a call to action to shed the grip of toxic places, spaces and faces,” Owusu said of the song in a press statement.
It was co-produced by Dave Hammer and Andrew Klippel, who also founded Owusu’s record label OURNESS. The song also sees Owusu collaborate with a lineup of other notable Australian musicians.
Joining Klippel and Owusu in the studio during the song’s creation was a band comprised of Kirin J Callinan, Touch Sensitive and Julian Sudek of World Champion.
Owusu will also be giving the song its live premiere when he takes on his one-off livestreamed performance later this month, ‘The Genesis Owusu House Party with Red Bull’. The performance kicks off at 7pm AEST on Friday, May 22.
Owusu will not only be giving his first performance of ‘Don’t Need You’, but he’ll also be giving a preview of what else he has in store for the rest of the year.
