The Jezabels frontwoman’s new version completely revamps the track’s instrumentation, swapping out guitars, drums and synths for a piano and cello.
The new rendition arrives with an accompanying music video, featuring Mary, pianist Sarah Belkner and cellist Hanna Oblikov. Watch it below:
Hayley Mary originally released ‘The Chain’ on November 5. At the time, she said that “sonically and melodically, it’s one of my most uplifting” songs, despite its melancholy lyrical content. Late last month, Mary performed the track as part of her appearance on The Sound.
Last week, Hayley Mary announced a string of tour dates for 2021. She plans to stop off in regional cities around Victoria as well as major hubs in NSW and the ACT. Tickets are on sale here, with the list of dates detailed below.
