Kita Alexander reveals pregnancy news during ‘The Sound’ performance

The singer performed her latest single ‘Can’t Help Myself’

Kita Alexander revealed she’s having another baby during her appearance on ABC’s The Sound over the weekend.

Airing last night (December 6), the musician sang her latest single ‘Can’t Help Myself’ live for the first time from The Orchard Estate in Clunes, New South Wales. The performance opened with Alexander singing in a vintage car surrounded by native flowers, before stepping out to reveal her baby bump.

She’d been teasing the performance on her social media earlier that day, hinting that she had “a very exciting announcement”.

‘Can’t Help Myself’ is the singer’s third new single this year, following on from February’s ‘Against The Water’ and ‘I Miss You, I’m Sorry’ in June. She originally released the track in October, before a music video for the single arrived last month.

Speaking of the song in an Instagram post, Alexander said it was almost five years in the making.

“[Dan Hume] and I wrote the initial idea for this song back in 2015 in Hollywood,” she wrote. “As we came back to it this year to finish it off, it morphed into something completely different and of course way better.”

“For me it’s all about looking back at the first moments of falling in love and the thrill of it all.”

Alexander is already a mother to her young son Vali, and is open about juggling parenting and music. Earlier this year, she appeared as a guest on Jack River‘s podcast To Rebel In The Times and spoke about motherhood in the industry.

“I really believe there’s a space that can be opened up for women who have fallen pregnant, who are experiencing their bodies and what they’re capable of in childbearing, and more of an understanding that can be appreciated by the industry,” she said.

“It’s very unlikely you’re going to have someone on your team who is a mum… so for women these days, we have to open up that space ourselves.”
