Marlon Williams, The Beths appear on compilation to benefit NZ venues

All proceeds will be split between Auckland venues Whammy Bar and Wine Cellar

Marlon Williams, The Beths and Yumi Zouma are among the artists to feature on a new compilation aimed at supporting New Zealand venues Whammy Bar and Wine Cellar, both of which were impacted by coronavirus restrictions.

Williams covers Art Garfunkel‘s classic ‘Bright Eyes’, while the Beths contribute a live version of their song ‘Not Running’. Yumi Zouma, meanwhile, share an alternate version of their track ‘Bruise’.

All proceeds will be split equally between the two venues, both of which are beloved establishments located on Karangahape Road in Auckland.

Other local artists that appear on the compilation include Princess Chelsea, French for Rabbits, Reb Fountain, A.C. Freazy and Carb on Carb.

“As soon as it looked like Level 4 was here to stay it became apparent music venues would be among the hardest hit by the extended lockdown,” explained curator Anthony Metcalf in a statement accompanying the compilation.

“Then I put my thinking cap on – how could the wider scene support these venues, when gathering together was impossible?”

As a result, all 17 artists featured on the compilation donated their music to support the venues, many of which they’ve previously performed at.

“We played some of our first baby Beths shows back in 2015 at Wine Cellar and Whammy Bar, and have played there a hundred times since,” wrote the Beths on Instagram.

“We are hope they are around for a long time yet.”
