Muse win Best Reissue for ‘Origin Of Muse’ at NME Awards 2020

The box set details the band's early days through to their mainstream breakthrough

Muse have won Best Reissue for their ‘Origin Of Muse’ box set at the NME Awards 2020.

The Devon trio were up against the likes of R.E.M., Prince, The Beatles and Aretha Franklin in the category.

Released back in December, ‘Origin Of Muse’ charts the band’s beginnings through early demoes and debut album ‘Showbiz’ through to their rise to being a mainstream success on their 2001 LP ‘Origin Of Symmetry’.

The deluxe collector’s set includes a 48 page booklet, nine CDs, four coloured vinyl and an in-depth interview with the band. The number of tracks totals 113 – of which 40 are unreleased.

NME’s review of ‘Origin Of Symmetry’ back in 2001 read: “It’s amazing for such a young band to load up with a heritage that includes the darker visions of Cobain and Kafka, Mahler and The Tiger Lillies, Cronenberg and Schoenberg, and make a sexy, populist album. But Muse have carried it off. It’s their ‘Siamese Dream’. Now begins the psychoanalysis.

“Thom Yorke’s least favourite word is ‘angst’; Matt Bellamy’s is about to become ‘psychotic’. We’re the lucky ones who get to look at the pretty shapes as the blood hits the wall.”

Returning to the O2 Academy Brixton and hosted by Katherine Ryan and Julie Adenuga, the NME Awards celebrates the best of the last 12 months in music. The likes of The Cure, Foals, Robyn, Taylor Swift and Courtney Love were in attendance and honoured on the night. See the full list of winners here.

The evening also saw epic performances from the likes of The 1975FKA TwigsYungbludAJ TraceyBeabadoobie and Mura Masa and Slowthai.
