Shannen James shares The Rubens’ remix of ‘Seventeen’

The track originally appeared on her debut EP, 'Arrows'

Shannen James has shared the first official remix of one of her tracks, with The Rubens taking on ‘Seventeen’.

James originally released ‘Seventeen’ earlier this year, as a single from her debut EP, ‘Arrows’.

The Rubens’ mix, out today (December 17), transforms the jangle-pop original into a moodier affair.

“I’m really excited to have my first ever remix of one of my songs done by The Rubens,” James said in a press release.

“I have been a fan of theirs for a long time so this was a super special collar and felt like a great fit! They have brought a real edgy and melancholic feel to ‘Seventeen’ which I think is a really cool take on it.”

The Rubens echoed James’ positive sentiments in their statement about the remix.

“We were super excited when we were asked to remix this track,” the band said.

“It’s such an awesome song so we were a little scared to mess it up, but we had a load of fun doing it and hope people dig it!”.

NME gave ‘Arrows’ a four-star review upon its release in September.

“There’s nothing particularly surprising or new on this EP, but James proves her songwriting chops by delivering bright, heartfelt joy in spades,” the review read.

“If this is anything to go by, a full-length recording will go down a treat”.
