Something For Kate have kicked off a new video series, which will see them share a new acoustic live performance each day until Christmas.
Each video will feature a different track from the band’s latest album, ‘The Modern Medieval’, performed solo by frontman Paul Dempsey.
Dempsey commenced proceedings yesterday (December 18), with an acoustic rendition of the album’s lead single, ‘Situation Room’.
He’s followed it up today (December 19) by tearing through ‘I Will Defeat You’, the album’s emphatic closing track. Watch both videos below.
Dempsey has been sharing video performances prolifically throughout the pandemic. He has frequently teamed up with other Aussie artists to cover well-known tracks. Bernard Fanning, Bob Evans and Hayley Mary are among those to have joined forces with the Something For Kate frontman.
Most recently, Something For Kate appeared on The Sound, performing their latest single, ‘Come Back Before I Come Back To My Senses’.
Something For Kate released ‘The Modern Medieval’ in late November. It was the band’s first record since ‘Leave Your Soul To Science’ hit shelves in 2012.
In a recent interview with NME, Dempsey reflected on the ideas which spawned the band’s first record in eight years.
“There’s a lot about the world right now that resembles medieval life,” he said.
“People have retreated behind the walls of their castles and back into their tribes. In medieval times, power was concentrated in the hands of the few.
“Now we have social media and the fact that everyone is walking around with a television in their pocket is the only reason the powerful are able to get away with this shit.”
