Sophiya announces debut EP, drops new single ‘LINGO’

Her debut EP is out October 9

Up-and-coming Melbourne rapper Sophiya will release her debut EP, ‘Overdue’, on October 9.

To celebrate the announcement, Sophiya has shared a new single from the EP, entitled ‘LINGO’. The track follows on from previously released singles ‘ROSIE’ and ‘CHIEF O’KIEF’, both of which hit streaming services earlier this year.

It is unclear which of these previous singles will feature on Sophiya’s forthcoming EP, as the rapper is yet to reveal its tracklist.

Sydney’s PAX produced ‘LINGO’, with DOPAM!NE overseeing the track’s mixing and mastering.

Speaking about her new single in a press release, Sophiya stated that “’Lingo’ is about feeling misunderstood.

“I want to push sonic boundaries as an independent artist and ascend beyond the underdog title.”

Sophiya burst onto the scene in 2018 with her debut single ‘WHITE IVORY’. She took a break from releasing music last year but has returned prolifically in 2020.

In May, Sophiya appeared in the third season of Red Bull’s 64 Bars video series.

The series, created by David Dallas, sees Australian and New Zealand rappers take to the studio to lay down 64 bars of unedited rhymes. Sophiya appeared in the second instalment of the current season, which has also featured appearances by Tasman Keith and Lisi.
