Teenage Joans drop energetic new track ‘Something About Being Sixteen’

Their first release since winning triple j's Unearthed High last year

Teenage Joans, the winners of triple j’s Unearthed High competition for 2020, have dropped a new track, entitled ‘Something About Being Sixteen’.

In an interview with triple j, singer/guitarist Cahli Blakers called the track “the epitome of Teenage Joans”.

“This is our most favourite song we’ve ever written,” she told the youth broadcaster.

“That verse is just about giving hope to people who feel hopeless, and our music inspiring them, which is the best thing ever”.

‘Something About Being Sixteen’ is Teenage Joans’ first release since ‘Three Leaf Clover‘, the song that took out Unearthed High last year. The single was just the second of the Adelaide duo’s career, following on from their debut track ‘By The Way’.

‘Something About Being Sixteen’ has featured in Teenage Joans’ live shows since before the coronavirus pandemic. It has also lent its name to the title of the group’s forthcoming tour.

Late last year, Teenage Joans announced plans to tour with TOWNS in January. The two duos will perform at Black Bear Lodge in Brisbane and Stay Gold in Melbourne on January 24 and 29, respectively.

There is no word yet on whether Queensland’s recent coronavirus cases will affect the bands’ plans.

Teenage Joans are also slated to perform at Summer Sounds in Adelaide and at Teenage Kicks festival on the Gold Coast later this year.
