Tones and I, Juice WRLD are Spotify’s most streamed artists in Australia this year

The Weeknd, Hilltop Hoods and Flume also feature

Tones And I, Juice WRLD and The Weeknd led Australia’s Spotify listening trends this year as the streaming giant revealed the stats from its 2020 Wrapped series today (December 2).

Spotify’s 2020 Wrapped series – which showcases users’ listening habits throughout the year – revealed late rapper Juice WRLD as the most streamed artist in Australia this year.

As well as Juice WRLD, Drake, Taylor Swift, Eminem and The Weeknd were also recognised in the Australian Most Streamed Artist category.

With nearly 1.7billion global streams this year, The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ came out on top as Australia’s most streamed song, while the top spot for most streamed Australian song went to Tones And I for ‘Dance Monkey’ for the second year running. Tones And I also has the most streamed song by a female artist globally in 2020.

Also for the second year in a row, Hilltop Hoods took out the top spot for most streamed Australian artist by Australian listeners, joined in the category by Flume, The Wiggles and 5 Seconds of Summer.

The category for Most Streamed Australian Songs saw Tones And I take out the top two spots for ‘Dance Monkey’ and ‘Never Seen the Rain’, respectively.

The Rubens‘Live In Life’, ‘Rushing Back’ by Flume and Vera Blue, and Sam Fischer‘s ‘This City’ follows in third, fourth and fifth place, respectively.

The Weeknd also made appearances on Spotify’s global lists, joining Billie Eilish and Bad Bunny among the most-streamed artists of 2020.

Bad Bunny’s ‘YHLQMDLG’ has the distinction of being the most streamed album globally this year, with a whopping 3.3billion streams.

The Weeknd’s ‘After Hours’, Post Malone’s ‘Hollywood’s Bleeding’, Harry Styles’ ‘Fine Line’ and Dua Lipa’s ‘Future Nostalgia’ round out the top five.

Meanwhile, The Joe Rogan Experience – landing in fourth place on the Australian chart – took out top spot globally for most popular podcast this year.
