Watch Alex The Astronaut perform ‘I Think You’re Great’ from an empty Riverstage

For The Sound's 'Making Gravy Christmas Special'

Alex The Astronaut performed her single ‘I Think You’re Great’ from an empty Riverstage amphitheatre in Brisbane for The Sound: Making Gravy Christmas Special last night.

The singer-songwriter sticks to the track’s original arrangement, but the new rendition features rawer vocals and scratchier guitars. Alex also winkingly dubs it her “first show of 2020”, something that isn’t quite true after a run of gigs through NSW last month with Tasman Keith.

Last night’s episode of The Sound was the season 2 finale with a festive bent, inspired by Paul Kelly‘s Christmas classic ‘How To Make Gravy’. A performance from Kelly comprised of previously unseen footage from his sold-out ‘Making Gravy’ show at The Domain last year was aired as part of the special last night.

The Teskey Brothers sneak-previewed their upcoming livestream with the 45-piece Orchestra Victoria, while Baker Boy, Dallas Woods and Sampa The Great teamed up for their second performance of their collaborative single ‘Better Days’, featuring footage captured at Victoria’s Hanging Rock and in Botswana.

Ball Park MusicVika & LindaDan SultanAlex Lahey and more also performed as part of last night’s special.

Alex The Astronaut’s ‘I Think You’re Great’ is taken from her debut album ‘The Theory of Absolutely Nothing’, released in August. In a five-star review, NME said the record was “a celebration of small moments and personal battles…[and] intimate as they come”.
