Watch Dannika’s twee stop motion music video for ‘Giving It Up’

The Magic Steven-made video arrives ahead of the release of Dannika's debut album 'Gems' this week

Dannika has shared ‘Giving It Up’, the latest single ahead of the release of her debut album ‘Gems’.

The spunky jangle is an exasperated kiss-off to a frustrating partner, that sees frontwoman Dannika Horvat adopt a talky delivery.

It arrives today with a twee stop motion music video by Magic Steven, where line-drawn band members play along with the track as flower, sun and moon-people. Watch it below.

‘Giving It Up’ follows the release of singles ‘Directions’, ‘I Don’t Wanna Be With Anyone’ and ‘Hurricane’. Dannika’s debut album ‘Gems’ will be released this Friday, January 29.  The record’s title was not inspired from precious jewels, but Horvat’s favourite food: the canteen classic potato gems.

The band features a team of prolific Melbourne musicians, including Liam Parsons and Stefan Blair from Good Morning, and Paul Ceraso, known for his work with Gordon Koang.

Outside of music, Horvat is an award-winning short filmmaker. Her 2014 short film The Summer of ABC Burns was awarded Best Director and Best Screenplay at the Melbourne Queer Film Festival and Sydney’s WOW Film Festival respectively.

Dannika is set to launch ‘Gems’ in two joint headline shows with Snowy Band at the Northcote Social Club in Melbourne on February 5. The first, late show has sold out, but a second earlier session is now on sale here.
