Watch Psychedelic Porn Crumpets shred a cover of ‘I Wan’na Be Like You’ from ‘The Jungle Book’

A fuzzed-out version of the doo-wop Disney classic

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets took to triple j’s Perth studios to perform a fuzzed-out cover of  ‘I Wan’na Be Like You’ from The Jungle Book for the station’s Like A Version segment.

The band make the doo-wop Disney classic sound very much like a Porn crumpets song, opening with a Van Halen-esque guitar shred, and descending into a very noisy finish.

In a post-performance interview, frontman Jack McEwan said his sister had come up with the idea for the cover, as a fan of the Jonas Brothers’ version.

“It felt like a really stupid idea that we sort of threw away for a while…but while we were recording it, it felt like its own song. Which felt a lot more unique and more what we like to do,” McEwan said.

“It was good to put our own spin on the track and get sued by Disney for the rest of our lives.”

McEwan also said that they intend to perform the version live, using the polka rhythm of the song to lead into a cover of Queens of the Stone Age‘s ‘No One Knows’.

As is typical of the segment, The West Australian psych-rock band also played an original, their single ‘Tally-Ho’. Watch that performance below.
