Waax, Camp Cope, Mo’Ju announced for A Carry 4 Coins fundraiser

The event returns to Brisbane in February

Concert fundraiser A Carry 4 Coins will be returning to Brisbane in 2021, following its inaugural event this year.

Taking place at the Fortitude Music Hall on February 5, the concert will feature performances from Waax, Camp Cope, Mo’Ju, Tia Gostelow, Emily Wurramara and Barkaa. More acts are expected to be announced in the lead-up to the show.

A Carry 4 Coins was launched this year by Point Blank Group to raise funds in light of the bushfires last summer. The event ended up raising $24,000, which was divided between Firesticks Alliance and Mobo Aboriginal Land Council. The 2020 lineup included Sampa The Great, Kaiit, Ecca Vandal, Kira Puru and Jesswar, among others.

The 2021 event will direct proceeds to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTQIA+ organisation Black Rainbow, as well as a group of transgender women of colour working within their community to raise funds for gender affirmation surgery.

“When David (my business partner) and I started this event, it was us in the living room ordering dinner and texting mad friends like Kaiit, Sampa, Kira, and others to be part of this event,” artist and Point Blank founder Miss Blanks said in a statement.

“Fast forward nearly a year, we’re plagued with the impacts of COVID-19 which has disproportionately affected Black, Indigenous, People of Colour, Poor people, LGBTIQA+ people, Disabled folk, Sex Workers, and many other people not represented and cared for on a social, governmental, or industrial level.

“I’m so excited for us to be launching A Carry 4 Coins 2021 and announce the annual event with many editions to come. It’s so important to us to help provide relief where possible so that as a community we can all feel supported, protected, seen, and heard.”

Tickets to A Carry 4 Coins are available through Ticketmaster or on the door if not sold out.
