Can you believe it’s the end of February already? It’s kind of a shame, too, because it was the most aesthetically pleasing February we’ve had in ages. Four weeks with the first day being a Monday and the last day being a Sunday, you really couldn’t ask for more from your calendar, and nor should you.
It’s been a really good month for games, and we’re ending quite strong as well, which is nice for this time of year. This week we’ve got some really interesting games, and they all look surprisingly tough too.
If you want the chance to adventure around and save a kingdom, then we’ve got you covered. If you’d rather just punch and kick your way through a stylised world, then number two should sort you out. Finally, if you’re just here because you like cats and you’re a little bit lost, then we’ve actually got something to help you out. We’re assuming there aren’t too many people who just like cats and are lost, but everyone likes cats, so you’ll all be keen to find out more about that.
Rogue Heroes: Ruins Of Tasos
First up is Rogue Heroes: Ruins Of Tasos. This is a game that couldn’t be closer to being a Zelda game without risking some kind of lawsuit. In Rogue Heroes, you get to take control of a hero who has to roam around the world of Tasos trying to figure out what has gone wrong, fighting off monsters, ending curses, and just generally being the kind of person you write legends and songs about.
As you go, you’ll uncover new abilities, secret dungeons and new classes to play as. While the classes here do affect your stats, they mostly give you new movement abilities. As the game has strong roguelike elements, you’ll need to push through some incredibly tough dungeons in order to succeed, but don’t worry too much if you fail, as you can then use all of the gems you found to make yourself even stronger. On top of all of that, you can even play the game in four-player co-op online and save the world of Tasos with some friends.
‘Rogue Heroes: Ruins Of Tasos’ is now available for PC and Nintendo Switch.
Fights In Tight Spaces
In a big old swerve from being a magical hero, Fights In Tight Spaces seems to be a deckbuilding turn-based tactics game that basically lets you turn into a monochromatic John Wick, which sounds a lot like John Wick, to be fair. Rather than having you mashing buttons and trying to perform cool combos, it’s more about planning your movements meticulously and hoping you draw the right card.
Fights take place in small rooms designed to keep you and your enemies face to face at all times, and how you navigate, dodge, block, parry and ultimately survive each attack, is down to a mix of your own tactical genius, and also the cards you draw. It’s an incredibly cool take on the action game, and despite the fact that it’s entering Early Access and not fully releasing, we’re still confident that it’s going to be a good amount of game. Also, there’s a demo if you’re intrigued but not sold, so you can check that out.
‘Fights In Tight Spaces’ is now available for PC, Xbox Series X | S and Xbox One.
Kitty Tactics
Finally, what if you took a turn-based tactics game about making friends and overcoming your enemies, but also everyone is a cat? Well, that’s exactly what Kitty Tactics is doing, and it looks absolutely adorable, and also really quite fascinating. You have to not only fight off the opposing kitties, but also try and advance your own strategy by controlling the land around you.
On top of that, you can actively recruit and chat to other cats you find, and you’ll 100 per cent end up making enemies with some of them, given how touchy cats can be. There are also loads of skills and classes to unlock, which is great for any fans of classic strategy RPG games or just anyone that likes the idea of cats in hats. We’re assuming that everyone is interested in cats in hats, because this is the internet, and the first memes were all about wanting cheeseburgers and whatnot. This really does seem like an easy win, and a cute one too.
‘Kitty Tactics’ is now available for PC.
