London Grammar are working on ‘secret things’ (and have some tricks up their sleeves for Bestival)

They also discuss their 'soft spot' for Wolf Alice

London Grammar have revealed that they are currently working on ‘secret things’, and are planning something ‘special’ for their upcoming Bestival headline slot. Watch our video interview with the band above.

Speaking to NME on the red carpet of the BRIT Awards 2018, the trio revealed that despite a heavy year of touring off the back of their acclaimed 2017 album ‘Truth Is A Beautiful Thing‘, they were already back to work.

Asked about what they were currently working on, Dot Major on keys and percussion replied: “Secret things. We had a little time to relax, then we did the standard thing of saying ‘we’re never going to see each other again for six months’, and then after a couple of months we just really missed each other. So we’ve been hanging out and…yeah, ‘secret things’. That’s it.”

Singer Hannah Reid continued: “We do have some shows this year. We’ve got like nine gigs, and the show might hopefully be a bit different from the one we’ve been touring with this year so there will be some exciting stuff but it will be a bit more chill.”

As for how they hope to step up to headline Bestival this year, guitarist Dan Rothman added: “We’re definitely aware that headlining Bestival is a really serious thing.

“We love that festival. Dot’s been many time’s as a punter, we played there a bunch of times a few years ago so for us it needs to be special. We’ll make sure that it is, but I won’t give anything away about it.”

The band were in attendance at the BRIT Awards 2018, where they were nominated for Best British Group. The prize went to Gorillaz, but singer Hannah Reid revealed that she had a special place in her heart for fellow nominees Wolf Alice.

“Every single other nominee in our category is just unreal,” she told NME. “We’re such big fans of all of their music individually, but we’re really proud just to be here in that category alongside them.”

Reid added: “We probably all think that Gorillaz or The xx will win, but I personally have a real soft spot for Wolf Alice. They’re the most unique band around at the moment. I love her [singer Ellie Rowsell] and I think she’s amazing, so if they won I think that would be pretty cool.”

With London Grammar headlining alongside MIA, Bestival will return to Dorset’s Lulworth Estate for the second year running in 2018, with the festival promising to put on “the most colourful show on Earth”. Bestival 2018 will take place from August 2-5, with tickets on sale now here.
