Major Lazer joined by MØ during Lovebox headline set

Run The Jewels and Katy B also perform at festival in London's Victoria Park

Major Lazer were joined by to perform their single ‘Lean On’ as they closed the first night of Lovebox Festival yesterday (15 July).

The Danish singer appeared as a special guest right at the end of the group’s set to perform the massive hit, which was the fifth biggest selling song of last year and has racked up over 1.49 billion YouTube views. It is the ninth most-watched YouTube video of all time.

It was recently announced that MØ will collaborate with Major Lazer again on another new single, ‘Cold Water’, also featuring Justin Bieber, which will be released next Friday (22 July). However, there was no reference to this during the set.

During a high-energy, hit-packed set, Major Lazer DJs Diplo and Jillionaire frequently traded places behind the decks and leading the crowd while vocalist Walshy Fire told the crowd in Victoria Park that: “London is the number one party capital of the world.”

Earlier in the day, Diplo had also played a solo DJ set while the Lovebox main stage had seen performances from Katy B and Run The Jewels, who performed beneath giant inflatable versions of their signature hand gestures. After an energetic opening to their show, El-P joked: “I just want you all to know that I’ve got my brand new Reeboks, which I bought in honour of this show, really dirty. That’s the kind of sacrifice that we’re willing to make.”

Before ‘Close Your Eyes (And Count To Fuck)’, he added: “I want to apologise to all the people who came to see Run The Jewels and didn’t know what they were getting into. I also want to apologise to all the people in the first 15 rows with expensive cameras, extendable selfie sticks – you narcissists – and colostomy bags. Put all those things away, we’re gonna give you a count of five before we fuck things up.”

El-P also offered a comparison of British and American politics, suggesting that in both countries: “We live in a world run by fucking arseholes.” This led into an energetic version of ‘Lie, Cheat, Steal.’

Lovebox Festival continues today (16 July) with performances from LCD Soundsystem, Jungle and George Clinton.
