’24’ to return for 12-episode series next summer (2014)

Kiefer Sutherland will be back as Jack Bauer in a condensed new series called '24: Live Another Day'

Kiefer Sutherland will star in 12 new episodes of 24 premiering next summer (2014), US network Fox has announced.

Executive producer David Fury actually confirmed on Friday (May 10) that 24 would be coming back for a new 12-episode series, but full details about the show’s return have now been revealed.

During its original run between 2001 and 2010, 24 was known for its innovative method of “real-time storytelling”, with each 24-episode season covering 24 hours in the life of Sutherland’s character Jack Bauer. However, the new series will pack 24 hours of Bauer’s life into half the number of episodes.

The new condensed series has been titled 24: Live Another Day and will be overseen by Howard Gordon who served as 24‘s showrunner from 2006 onwards.

In a press release, Gordon promised that the show’s new format “is perfect to tell the next chapter of [Bauer]’s story and continue to reflect how the world is changing. Fans can rest assured that the Jack they know and love will be back.”

Meanwhile, Sutherland added: “To have the chance to reunite with the character Jack Bauer is like finding a lost friend. The story ideas from Howard Gordon are exciting and fresh, and will not disappoint… Make no mistake, my goal is to knock your socks off. See you soon.”
