Jared Leto to play The Joker in Warner Bros’ ‘Suicide Squad’ movie

Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Cara DeLevigne have also been cast in the super-villain ensemble movie

Warner Bros has announced the cast for its forthcoming super-villain ensemble movie Suicide Squad.

Oscar-winning 30 Second To Mars frontman Jared Leto will play The Joker, a role previously portrayed on screen by Jack Nicholson and the late Heath Ledger, in the eagerly-anticipated film featuring the posse of baddies from the DC Comics Universe.

Will Smith will play Deadshot, Tom Hardy will take on the role of Rick Flag, Jai Courtney will appear as Boomerang and The Wolf Of Wall Street‘s Margot Robbie will portray Harley Quinn. Meanwhile, model-turned-actress Cara DeLevigne lands her most high-profile role to date after being cast as Enchantress.

It has also been rumoured that Jesse Eisenberg will appear as Lex Luthor, the villainous role he will take on in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, but this has yet to be confirmed by. Warner Bros.

Shooting on Suicide Squad is due to begin next April with Fury director David Ayer behind the camera. The film is expected to arrive in cinemas at some point in 2016.

Announcing the film’s cast in a press release, Warner Bros’ president Greg Silverman said: “The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one. We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under David Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.”
