10 Things You Didn’t Know About Frances Bean Cobain

Since her stint as the world’s most famous baby, Frances Bean Cobain has been leaking fame like a rusty bucket. It’s unlikely she’s losing sleep: with her modest public profile, punctuated by occasional no-bullshit statements and low-key art shows, Frances has attracted a considerable fanbase of her own, and rightly so. Here are 10 things you might not now about the daughter of Kurt and Courtney.

10 She loves The Jesus & Mary Chain

At Frances Bean’s first art show under her own name (she’d previously operated incognito as ‘Fiddle Tim’, a nod to GG Allin) she created an “artistic expression” based on ‘Black’ by The Jesus & Mary Chain. She’s also taken selfies wearing the band’s merch.

9 She had a themed “Suicidal 16” birthday party

It was paid for by her mother at a cost of $323,000, Celebitchy reported, with a prize for whoever looked the “most dead”. That’ll be whoever leaked the story, presumably…

8 Tabloids hounded her from birth

“Rock Star’s Baby is Born a Junkie,” read one charming headline, published by US magazine Globe around Frances’ birth. In fairness, Courtney Love did admit to briefly taking heroin during pregnancy, and probably regretted it: according to one biography, two days after Frances’ birth a social worker from the Los Angeles County Department of Children’s Services sought to have Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love declared unfit parents.

7 The silver screen beckons (maybe)

According to a 2010 Courtney Love interview, her daughter turned down the role of Alice in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, and was even in contention to play Bella from Twilight. “But she wants to go to college,” mum said proudly. “She’s very good at graphic novels.”

6 She guested with Amanda Palmer

On ‘My Space’, a song by Amanda Palmer’s band Evelyn Evelyn, there’s a chorus of 20 voices singing the last chorus. One of those voices belonged to the young Cobain.

5 Fiancé Isaiah Silva is “very pro-woman”

Which is good to know. In the same interview, he said his band, The Rambles, have influences spanning “early Beatles, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Velvet Underground and punk like the Stooges.” Another member added, “We try to maintain a rawness”.

4 She interned at Rolling Stone beneath Kurt’s portrait

As a “15-year-old goth”, Frances once interned at Rolling Stone magazine; due to the office layout, she was stuck next to a giant painting of her dad peering down from the wall.

3 She gives Dave Grohl and Krist Noveselic the “K.C. Jeebies”

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Frances said: “Dave, Krist and Pat [Smear] came over to a house where I was living. It was the first time [the ex-Nirvana members] had been together in a long time. And they had what I call the ‘K.C. Jeebies,’ which is when they see me, they see Kurt. They look at me, and you can see they’re looking at a ghost. They were all getting the K.C. Jeebies hardcore. Dave said, ‘She is so much like Kurt.’”

2 She’s a massive Oasis fan

As rumours surfaced that the Gallagher boys had reached a “gentleman’s agreement” to reunite in 2016, Cobain Tweeted NME, saying, “WHAT! & I’ve died”.

1 She reached out to Robin Williams’ daughter after his death

After the comedian’s tragic suicide, Cobain Tweeted at his daughter, Zelda: “You have such an incredibly beautiful soul. I love you but you already knew that. Whenever wherever u need me, I’ll be there”.
