24 is set to return to the small screen with a new prequel series, according to new reports.
The original show initially ran for eight seasons from November 2001 to May 2010, before later returning for a reboot in 2014 for a series which went by the name Live Another Day. A spin-off, titled Legacy, was cancelled after just one season last year.
The Hollywood Reporter are now reporting that Fox are planning to revive 24 once again for a prequel series, with Jack Bauer set to return as the central character. 24 creators Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran are on board to helm the new season, which is still in the very early stages of development.
The new series will depict a younger version of Bauer as it tells his origin story, with producers hoping that this revival will be a long-term project.
While unconfirmed, it has been rumoured that original Bauer actor Kiefer Sutherland will not be involved in the reboot due to the young age of his character in the new show.
However, casting has yet to begin for the prequel series.
Last November, it was reported that another 24 spin-off – which was set to feature a female protagonist at the heart of a ‘legal thriller’ – was in the works.
