‘A-Team’ director sets his sights on ‘Preacher’

Garth Ennis’ cult comic may finally reach the silver screen

Director Joe Carnahan has his eye on the big screen adaptation of Vertigo’s Preacher.

Carnahan, whose big screen adaptation of The A Team, starring Liam Neeson and Jessica Biel is out in July, declared his interest in the project.

“I’m really keen on Preacher because I’m a big Garth Ennis fan. … I haven’t seen a script, but we’ll see,” reports Superhero Hype.

A film version of creator Garth Ennis’ series has been in the works since the first draft of a script was penned in 1998, overseen by Chasing Amy director Kevin Smith. Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes was attached to direct in 2008, but left the project earlier this year.

The 75-issue cult comic book follows the exploits of anti-hero Reverend Jesse Custer, a preacher possessed by the offspring of an angel and a demon, on a mission to find God.

Carnahan has also expressed interest in adapting Marvel comic Taskmaster for the big screen.
