Arnold Schwarzenegger ‘fathered child with staff member’

Schwarzenegger goes public with news after marriage break-up

Arnold Schwarzenegger fathered a child with a member of his household staff, it has emerged.

The action star and former California governor made the admission last night (May 16), less than a week after he and wife Maria Shriver announced their separation after 25 years of marriage.

The child was born over a decade ago, before his first bid for office.

Schwarzenegger decided to go public with the news, making a brief statement to the Los Angeles Times.

He said: “After leaving the governor’s office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago. I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry.”

Schwarzenegger continued: “I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time. While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not.”

It is believed that the mother who has not been named, worked for the family for over 20 years, before retiring in January. Shriver has declined to comment.
