Austin Powers writer Michael McCullers is reportedly working on Shrek 5 after the sequel has been given the green light.
Michael McCullers worked on all three of the Austin Powers movies – Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and Austin Powers in Goldmember.
According to The Hollywood News, DreamWorks Animation are currently working on Shrek 5. Directors Mike Mitchell and Walt Dohrn – who worked on the recently released Trolls – spoke of McCullers involvement.
Mitchell told The Hollywood News, “They’ve got a pretty good story [for Shrek 5]. It’s being written by Michael McCullers who wrote all of the Austin Powers films. He came up with a really great idea that they’re exploring.”
“There’s more story to tell there and we’re ready to help tell it for sure,” Dohrn added. When asked if the pair will be directing the new film, Dohrn said, “Not yet. But we wanna be [involved], we’d love that.”
Meanwhile, Austin Powers director Jay Roach has said there is still hope of creating a fourth instalment in the Austin Powers comedy series, but it won’t be for a while yet.
Speaking on US chat show Larry King live, Roach revealed his desire to revisit the spy franchise – and said that he has discussed the idea with Mike Myers, who previously brought the swinging British spy to life on the big screen.
