Aziz Ansari has announced a new set of stand-up shows as he continues his comeback to the live stage.
Ansari has largely kept out of the public eye this year after he was accused of sexual misconduct in January by a woman he once dated. In the online account, the woman (referred to only as “Grace”) claimed that Ansari continued to initiate sexual activity with her despite her use of verbal and non-verbal cues to indicate how uncomfortable she was with his alleged actions.
Ansari responded to the post with a statement, saying that he believed the sexual activity the pair engaged in was “by all indications, completely consensual”. After he heard from the woman in question the next day, the actor said he was “surprised and concerned. I took her words to heart and responded privately after taking the time to process what she had said.”
After making his first return to stand-up back in May, Ansari has now announced a slew of work-in-progress comedy shows in the US. Set to take place next month, the ‘Aziz Ansari Working Out New Material’ shows will visit the Charleston Gaillard Center in Charleston, the Tennessee Theatre in Knoxville, and the Tivoli Theatre in Chattanooga.
Ansari’s current set – which he performed during gigs in Madison, Wisconsin, and Milwaukee last weekend – reportedly contains jokes about dating, but includes no reference to the claims which were made against him back in January.
