Actors Ben McKenzie and Bryan Cranston have signed on to play the leads in forthcoming animation Batman: Year One.
Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises is not the only Batman film in the works. A cartoon version of Frank Miller‘s seminal graphic novel, tracing the origins of Batman has also been confirmed.
McKenzie will voice Bruce Wayne/Batman, while Cranston will portray Lieutenant Jim Gordon,the police officer who goes on to play a pivotal role in the Batman saga, according to Hollywoodreporter.com.
Meanwhile, two of sci-fi’s biggest female star’s have signed on for supporting roles. Dollhouse star Eliza Dushku will voice Catwoman, while Battlestar Galactica‘s Katee Sackhoff plays Gordon‘s love interest Detective Sarah Essen.
Batman: Year One will get its world premiere at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, before being released on DVD. Nolan‘s films borrow heavily from the storyline in Miller‘s acclaimed comic.
