BBC’s flagship political debate show Question Time was cut short last night (November 23), when a member of the Colchester town hall audience fell ill.
The David Dimbleby-hosted show ran for 40 minutes – 20 minutes short of its usual running time – after a woman in the crowd became unwell. The audience member was seen to by medical staff, but recording had to be stopped because she could not be moved to safety.
A full pre-recorded edition ran at 10.45pm, and political analysis show The Week was moved forward.
The show’s Twitter account later addressed the incident, confirming the woman was “now out of hospital.”
With regards to last night’s #bbcqt – the audience member is now out of hospital and thanks everyone for their concern.

Host Dimbleby was joined by a panel consisting of Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott, former chief executive of Marks and Spencer Lord Rose, Business Secretary Greg Clarke, crime author Dreda Say Mitchell and former Metropolitan Police Commissioner Lord Hogan-Howe. They were debating the question “what is the point of capitalism?” and the Budget’s impact on the housing market when medical staff had to attend to the scene.
