Beastie Boys’ Ad-Rock designs trainer to fundraise for Planned Parenthood

The rapper's new shoes will benefit the threatened US non-profit organisation

Beastie Boys‘ Ad-Rock has designed a trainer to raise money for Planned Parenthood.

Net proceeds from the sale of the shoe, made in collaboration with Los Angeles vegan footwear company Keep, will be donated to the US non-profit which provides reproductive health services including abortions.

“I support a woman’s right to choose and feel that women should not be punished for making decisions about their own lives and bodies,” said Ad-Rock in a statement. “If you have similar beliefs, you might wanna grab a pair.”

The rapper is one of a growing number of artists that have offered their support or donated to Planned Parenthood following the election of Donald Trump. The president-elect has previously promised to defund the charity during his campaign.

Run The JewelsEl-P also recently tweeted his support for the endangered organisation and said that he had made a donation.

In the weeks following the election, the American Civil Liberties Union and Southern Poverty Law Center have both reported surges in donations. Comedian David Cross said he would donate proceeds from his new stand-up album to the former, while Bon Iver have pledged to give net proceeds from their online store to the latter.

Earlier this month, a New York City park named in honour of late Beastie Boys member Adam “MCA” Yauch was defaced with swastikas and pro-Trump graffiti. Ad-Rock gave a speech at a “stand up against hate” rally at the park.
