'X-Men' director gives his take on the fairytale
X-Men: The Last Stand director Brett Ratner is set to create his own take on the Snow White fairytale in 3D.
The filmmaker reportedly wants to make an “edgy” comedy version of the children’s classic, with a script written by Melisa Wallack, the writer behind The Dallas Buyer’s Club and Bill.
“This is not your grandfather’s Snow White. Melisa went back to the 500-year-old folk tale and put in some of the things that were missing from Walt Disney’s film. His dwarves were miners, and here they are robbers,” Ratner told Empire.
“There is also a dragon that was in the original folk tale. Walt [Disney] made one of the great movies of all time, but ours is edgy and there is more comedy. The original, made for its time, was soft compared to what we’re going to do.”
Ratner may not direct the film as he could be starting work on Tower Heist this autumn, but insists he will be heavily involved in the production.
