The first trailer for Alan Partridge’s return to the BBC has been released, and it already looks like Norfolk’s finest broadcaster is back on vintage form.
This Time With Alan Partridge sees the Steve Coogan creation being handed an unlikely career lifeline when he becomes the stand-in host of This Time, an evening weekday magazine show.
While it sounds like Alan’s ticket back to the big time, the first trailer suggests that, unsurprisingly, it’s going to be the exact opposite.
In the first clip, we see Alan dealing with a tricky case of dry throat, only moments before going on air.
“Can I have a glass of water please?”, Alan frantically protests to no avail.
There’s also a brief look at Alan’s co-host Jennie Gresham (Susannah Fielding), who doesn’t seem entirely versed up with his illustrious career.
“You did that, what’s it called… Mid Morning Matters”, Gresham tells Alan before they go on air.
“I’ve watched the odd episode….loved what I saw.”
Cue Alan’s predictable response: “Well, it’s a radio show.”
This Time… is expected to air later this month and will see Alan being rejoined by loyal sidekick Simon Denton (Tim Key) and long suffering assistant Lynn Benfield (Felicity Montagu).
“This Time is the perfect shop window for a man of Alan’s gravitas and will, or should, see him finally recognised as one of the heavyweight broadcasters of his era”, the BBC previously confirmed.
“The show itself is a heady mix of consumer affairs, current affairs, viewer interaction, highbrow interview and lightweight froth; very much the sweet spots for a man whose CV boasts over two decades of weekday local radio. And with an array of diverse subjects on the agenda, it promises the perfect fit for a man whose broadcasting style has been described as ‘equidistant between chitchat and analysis.”
