Sandra Bullock also set to star
It was reported at the end of last year that Ocean’s 11 will be getting an all-female reboot, starring Sandra Bullock.
The reboot has apparently been in the works for over a year, with George Clooney, star of the recent Ocean’s trilogy, and Steven Soderbergh, the director of those films, both involved in initiating the project.
Showbiz 411 now reports that Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling and Helena Bonham Carter have joined the cast with Elizabeth Banks “likely joining the group”.
Friedman adds that Jennifer Lawrence has pulled out of the project due to scheduling conflicts. Clooney could cameo as Danny Ocean in the reboot, which will be directed by Gary Ross (Seabiscuit, the first Hunger Games film). The Playlist reports that screenwriter Olivia Milch (Little Women) has already completed a draft of its script.
Filming is rumoured to begin in New York early next year with a working title of ‘Ocean’s Ocho’. It’s also rumoured that the film will be a continuation of the original trilogy with Bullock playing the ex-con sister of George Clooney’s Danny Ocean. The prize in question? A necklace from the Met Ball.
Clooney starred opposite actors including Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle in Soderbergh’s 2001 Ocean’s Eleven film and a pair of successful sequels which followed in 2004 and 2007. The 2001 film was itself a remake of a 1960 heist movie starring five members of the so-called Hollywood ‘Rat Pack’ including Frank Sinatra.
