Cheryl and Liam Payne announce split after two years together

"It's been a tough decision for us to make"

Cheryl and Liam Payne have announced their split after dating for over two years.

The former Girls Aloud singer, 34, and One Direction star Payne confirmed the news on Twitter.

The pair are parents to son Bear, who was born in March 2017.

“We are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways. It’s been a tough decision for us to make”, Cheryl wrote on Twitter.

“We still have so much love for each other as a family. Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together.”

Payne also confirmed the news in a near-identical statement.

The confirmation of their split comes only months after Payne admitted that the pair had their “struggles” as a couple.

“I’m not gonna sit here and say that everything’s absolutely fine and dandy,” he told ES Magazine.

“Of course you go through different things, and that’s what a relationship is. But we go through them together as a family and that’s the most important thing for me.”

The pair were also accused of “faking” a display of affection during the BRIT Awards earlier this year.

“Oh stop  no one cares who’s been speculatively arguing or not in their relationships. Use your platform to put something productive in your column”, Cheryl later hit bacj.
