Chinese film will tell story of Nanjing Massacre of 1937
Hero director Zhang Yimou has announced that Christian Bale will star in Nanjing Heroes, the story of the Nanjing Massacre.
The British actor will play an American priest who helps a number of Chinese people escape.
Hundreds of Chinese soldiers were murdered and thousands of women raped by the Japanese Army during the 1937 massacre.
The Hollywood Reporter say the Chinese director’s new film will have a budget of approximately $90m (£58.2 million) and will use the effects team behind Saving Private Ryan.
Additionally the film will be shot in Mandarin Chinese, with 40% of the dialogue in English.
Zhang made his announcement at a recent press conference. He made no other cast or crew announcements.
