A new clip from ‘Once Upon a Deadpool’ sees the sweary superhero defend the musical talents of Nickleback.
The upcoming film is re-cut version of ‘Deadpool 2’, edited specifically to gain a PG-13 certificate. The toned-down version will include some new scenes where Deadpool reads Fred Savage, the former child star of Wonder Years, a bedtime story.
In the scene, which you can watch below, Savage describes Nickleback as “over-produced, formulaic ear garbage”.
Deadpool jumps to the oft-maligned band’s defence, saying: “Oh really? You know who might disagree with that? Facts.”
He then lists some of the band’s, admittedly impressive, accolades: 50 million albums sold worldwide, 11th best-selling musical act of all time, six Grammy nominations and Billboard’s most successful rock group of the last decade.
The pair then hold hands and launch into a head-banging rendition of Nickelback’s breakout hit ‘How You Remind Me’.
‘Once Upon a Deadpool’ is out on December 12. A percentage of sales from US tickets will be donated to the nonprofit organization Fuck Cancer, temporarily renamed “Fudge Cancer” for the film’s younger audience.
Chad Kroeger’s band have long been the subject of derision in music circles, with slights against the four-piece including a US Army officer banning their music from being played in the command post and Arnold Schwarzenegger saying the US Congress is “less popular than herpes and Nickelback”.
However, Deadpool isn’t alone with his admiration for the band. Father John Misty previously came to the band’s defence earlier this year.
“I will ride for Nickelback, OK?” Tillman told NME. “‘How You Remind Me’… That’s a fucking great song. Have you heard that song? It’s great.
Nickleback fans also revealed their reasons for liking the group and which artists they dislike.
