Audiences can get up close to Simba and co from September
Disney has confirmed the release of a 3D version of its hit title The Lion King.
The animated classic from 1994 with appear in cinemas for a limited run from September 16. You can watch the trailer by clicking below.
This strategy of fleshing out its hit properties has worked well for the studio in the past, following on from the 3D releases of Toy Story and Toy Story 2. However, this will be the first time it has applied the technique to a hand-drawn animation.
The Toy Story re-releases earned almost $65 million (£40 million) worldwide, providing a primer for Toy Story 3 last year. The Lion King has already been converted into a smash hit stage musical.
Disney had been flirting with several release dates for a 3D version of Beauty And The Beast, but eventually decided to go with the Elton John-soundtracked jungle tale first.
The family favourite is expected to go up against Kate Bosworth vehicle Straw Dogs, Johnny English Reborn and Cannes entry Drive at the box office.
