‘300’ prequel looking for a director

Zack Snyder will not direct spin-off movie

The prequel to 300 is to go ahead without its original director Zack Snyder calling the shots.

But the studio behind the project, Legendary Pictures, have lined up two potential directors to fill his shoes.

The first candidate for the picture is Noam Murro, whose only feature so far is the 2008 comedy drama Smart People, starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Dennis Quaid. He has also won a number of awards for his work in commercials.

Murro is also being talked up for the director’s job on the potential fifth Die Hard movie.

The second name in contention is Jaume Collet-Serra, the man behind the thriller Unknown, starring Liam Neeson.

Zack Snyder has written the script for the prequel film, but will be too busy directing the new Superman film, Man Of Steel, to direct the follow-up.

It is also rumoured by Deadline that the 300 prequel will now be named 300: Battle Of Artemisia rather than the original title of Xerxes.

300 was released in 2006 and grossed well over $200m (£124.9m). It catapulted Gerard Butler to the top of the Hollywood cast list and cemented Snyder‘s status as a director of accomplished visuals.
