Tom Hardy takes over the iconic title role from Mel Gibson
An action-packed new full-length trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road has been released this evening (March 31).
The first Mad Max film in 30 years sees Tom Hardy take over the iconic title role from Mel Gibson, flanked by a supporting cast that includes Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Hugh Keays-Byrne, who appeared in the original 1979 Mad Max film.
George Miller, who directed the first two Mad Max films and co-directed the third, returned to shoot the fourth instalment and recently described Fury Road as a “westerns on wheels”.
The film’s official synopsis teases: “Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa (Theron).
“They are escaping a Citadel tyrannised by the Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne), from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.”
Mad Max: Fury Road is scheduled to open in UK cinemas on May 14 – the same day it has its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in an out of competition screening.
