Al Pacino to star in adaptation of Philip Roth novel ‘The Humbling’

Hollywood legend teaming up with director Barry Levinson again

Al Pacino has signed on to star in an adaptation of Philip Roth‘s 2009 novel The Humbling.

According to Deadline.com, the Hollywood legend will take the lead role of Simon Axler, a declining actor whose fortunes pick up when he retires to his farmhouse and starts dating a younger woman.

Shooting on the movie is due to begin in the autumn, with Barry Levinson in the director’s chair.

Pacino and Levinson are also working on Gotti: Three Generations, a New York gangland biopic slated for a 2013 release.

According to the report, the film is currently undergoing a rewrite, giving Pacino and Levinson the time to work on The Humbling first.

John Travola will take the lead role of John Gotti Snr in the movie, which will also star Lindsay Lohan and Joe Pesci.

Pacino and Levinson received critical acclaim last year for another collaboration, HBO TV movie You Don’t Know Jack.
