Andrew Garfield and director Marc Webb confirmed for ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ sequel

And Emma Stone is in talks to reprise her role as Gwen Stacy

Andrew Garfield will reprise his role as Peter Parker in the next Spider-Man movie.

Director Marc Webb will also return for the sequel to his hit reboot The Amazing Spider-Man, Columbia Pictures has confirmed. Meanwhile, Emma Stone is in talks for a second appearance as love interest Gwen Stacy.

Columbia’s president Doug Berngrad said in a statement: “We could not be more confident in the direction we are taking this new Spider-Man storyline and we are tremendously excited to be ramping up production again with Marc at the helm and Andrew continuing on as Peter Parker. We can’t wait to share what we have in store for Peter and Spider-Man with audiences worldwide.”

The sequel is being scripted by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the in-demand writing duo behind 2009’s Star Trek, alongside Jeff Pinkner, who has written for Lost and Fringe. A previous draft was provided by James Vanderbilt, one of the screenwriters on The Amazing Spider-Man.

The Spider-Man sequel, which has yet to be given an official title, is due to go into production in early 2013. Columbia Pictures has scheduled its release for May 2, 2014.

Since its release this August (2012), The Amazing Spider-Man has taken over $748 million (£462 million) at the box office worldwide, making it the highest-grossing reboot movie ever.
