‘Avengers Assemble’ takes £2.5 million on opening day in UK

The Marvel movie records the third biggest opening of all time
Avengers Assemble has taken £2.5 million in its opening day at the UK box office.

Marvel’s epic superhero mash-up yesterday (April 26) recorded the third biggest opening of all time in the UK, beaten only by Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix and the biggest, Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge Of The Sith.

Meanwhile, Joss Whedon‘s movie has already broken launch day records in New Zealand and Taiwan. Bolstered by positive reviews and a lengthy teaser campaign within Thor, Captain America and the Iron Man solo movies, the film has demanded additional screenings to be laid on across the UK to meet the demand.

The movie, titled simply The Avengers in the US, is released there on May 4. It has already been tipped to gross more than $150 million (£92.7 million).

Avengers Assemble stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L Jackson. You can watch the trailer at the top of the page.
