"Everything you want, nothing you expect"
Following its premiere last night, the first reactions and reviews are in for the hotly-anticipated Avengers: Infinity War.
With much hype around the movie after the long run of critical and commercial success of recent Marvel movies, writer, director and comic book geek Kevin Smith was among the first to Tweet his thoughts on ‘Infinity War’ after the first screening.
“I am overwhelmed,” he wrote. “The movie is epic beyond compare. LOVED it. My legs are still shaking. It’s a gigantic Marvel masterpiece. So much to say but I’ll stay Silent Bob ’til Monday so as not to slip in spoilers.
“Suffice to say it’s gonna be a looooong year until Avengers 4…”
Other reactions seemed to follow a similar theme – adding that the film is packed with twists and surprises.
Movie writer Peter Sciretta added: “‘Infinity War’ is everything you want, nothing you expect. It’s funny, surprising, dark, filled with delightful interplay between characters never seen on screen before.
“I know many filmmakers say they are trying to make a sequel in the vein of Empire Strikes Back, this succeeds.”
The official synopsis of the movie reads: “As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artefacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality.
“Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.”
Avengers: Infinity War, which exists in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will be released on April 27 in the UK and May 4 in the US.
This will be followed by Avengers 4 in May 2019.
