2019 looks to be another busy year for the 'Crazy Rich Asians' star

Awkwafina is reportedly in discussions to star in the next Jumanji film, Jumanji: The Next Level.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Crazy Rich Asians star is in final negotiations to join Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart in the upcoming sequel to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

The sequel is based on the picture book by Chris Van Allsburg. It takes cues from the 1995 movie adaptation, starring Robin Williams, in which a magical board game brings wild jungle animals to life.

Awkwafina’s role is unknown, although sources told The Hollywood Reporter that the character is “key” and “significant”.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle updated the Jumanji premise by using a video game instead of a board game. Four teens are transported into its world who are then portrayed using avatars played by Johnson, Black, Hart and Gillan.

American rapper-turned-actress Awkwafina, whose real name is Nora Lum, had a busy 2018 with roles in Oceans 8 and Crazy Rich Asians. She also hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live.
