Nolan completed his own trilogy of Batman films less than four years ago
The director of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Zack Snyder, has revealed that he asked for Christopher Nolan’s blessing before bringing the caped crusader back to the big screen.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, in which Ben Affleck slips into Bruce Wayne’s superhero suit arrives in cinemas this March – less than four years since Nolan completed his highly acclaimed trilogy of ‘Dark Knight’ films.
In a new interview with Empire, Snyder recalls saying to Nolan: “You tell me if you don’t want me to do it.” After a pause, Nolan apparently replied: “Well, we don’t own these characters. When you’re done making Batman movies, someone else will.”
Snyder then said of his fellow director: “I think he found it a little bit hard. I would feel the same way.”
Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice is set to open in cinemas worldwide on March 25. Zack Snyder has explained that the beginning of the film is weighted more heavily towards Ben Affleck’s Batman than Henry Cavill’s Superman, but “evens back out” as the narrative progresses.
Meanwhile, Cavill recently confirmed that the film isn’t conceived as a sequel to 2013’s Superman reboot Man Of Steel, but is “more of an introduction to Batman, an opening to Justice League, and an expansion of the world that was created in Man of Steel“.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice also stars Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jeremy Irons as Bruce Wayne’s butler Albert Pennyworth, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Holly Hunter as a US Senator, Laurence Fishburne as newspaper editor Perry White and Diane Lane as Superman’s adoptive mother Martha Kent.
The plot synopsis for the film teases: “At long last, see Batman and Superman square off against each other in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, an epic superhero showdown which will change both their lives forever.
“Clark Kent doesn’t trust Gotham’s mysterious masked vigilante. Bruce Wayne doesn’t trust the alien who nearly destroyed Metropolis. And Lex Luthor, who hates Superman more than anyone, is manipulating both of them for his own twisted ends.”
