Ben Affleck’s stand-alone ‘Batman’ film confirmed by Warner Bros

CEO Kevin Tsujihara confirms Dark Knight title joins DC slate

Ben Affleck will star in a stand-alone Batman film, it has been confirmed.

Since Affleck was cast as The Dark Night in blockbuster mash-up Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice it has been rumoured that the Oscar-nominated writer and director would look to helm his own film for the character. It was already known that he has written a script for the film.

Now Warner Bros chairman, Kevin Tsujihara, has confirmed that the studio are to release the film as part of their epic DC Comics roll-out in the next four years.

“It set up a great foundation for our DC slate, which includes at least 10 movies through 2020,” Hollywood Reporter quotes Tsuijhara said of Batman v Superman. “I’m also excited to know that we will be working with Ben Affleck on a stand-alone Batman movie.”

Tsuijhara was speaking at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Among the ten DC films due before 2020 are Suicide Squad, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Shazam!, Cyborg, and Green Lantern Corps as well as two Justice League titles.

Despite receiving overwhelmingly negative reviews, Batman V Superman has gone on to huge box office success and scored the fourth biggest opening weekend in global box office history.

Zack Snyder’s superhero mash-up movie raked in $424.1 million (£299.2 million) worldwide in its first week.

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice also scored the best opening weekend of 2016 so far, overtaking previous pace-setter Deadpool.
