Ben Affleck to star in and direct stand-alone ‘Batman’ film after ‘Batman v Superman’

Affleck will write the film alongside writer Geoff Johns

Ben Affleck will return as Batman in a standalone Dark Knight film, it has been confirmed.

Affleck, whose debut as Batman will come in 2016’s Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, is on board to star in the film and will also write and direct.

The film will be written by Affleck alongside Geoff Johns of DC Comics, reports Deadline. The actor/ director is due to begin work on the project in November after he completes filming on Live By Night, a big screen adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s crime novel in which he appears alongside Zoe Saldana and Sienna Miller.

Geoff Johns has previous writing credits on titles such as Smallville, Arrow and The Flash while Affleck was Oscar nominated for his last directorial outing, Argo in 2012.

Alongside Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman, “superhero mash-up movie” Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice also stars Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Jeremy Irons as Batman’s butler, Alfred.

The first teaser trailer was unveiled in April after leaking online ahead of its planned release.

Director Zack Snyder finished filming Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, his sequel to 2013’s Man Of Steel last December. Warner Bros. has set his film for release on March 25, 2016.

Meanwhile, Ben Affleck’s Batman also looks set to appear in Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad movie, which opens on August 5, 2016, after the caped crusader was spotted on the film’s set in Toronto in May.
